* THANK YOU, Three-4-Me Parents, for all of the hours you spend with your child! We hope to have even more hours this year than last by all of our WONDERFUL parents!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The "THREE FOR ME" Volunteer Program....
is a wonderful program that assists Gardner students, families, and school. Parents and/or Grandparents promise to give 3 hours of their time with a Gardner student throughout the school year. The hours can be completed at school, at home, at church, or any where you interact with children.
We know that you spend quality time with your child and we want to document it. If you help with homework, take them to the park, teach a Sunday School class, help at Gardner, go on a Field Trip, or just read with your child or others, THAT QUALIFIES FOR THREE FOR ME!
Please fill out a "promise" card and send it back to school. After your three hours are completed, fill out a "completed" card and send it as well.
For More Information: contact Ms. Ross by e-mail at, [email protected] or call our main office at: 501-620-7822.
Parents logged in over 259.5 hours last year! WAY TO GO!
We hope to see even BIGGER totals this year! Keep up the GREAT work!
The Hot Springs School District employees and parents believe that a strong partnership ensures that our students will succeed.
Ideas for what can you do to volunteer?
Attendance Laws Act 1223 of 2011
The Arkansas State Legislature has made the following changes of note on attendance laws in Arkansas:
"Excused" and "Unexcused" absences are no longer considered in determining whether a student has had "excessive absences."
If necessary, BEFORE a student reaches the maximum number of allowed absences, the parent/guardian may petition the school administration for special arrangements to address the student’s absences.
If special arrangements are made, they are to be put in writing and signed by the school administrator, the parent, and the student.
Hot Springs School District students shall not be absent more than twelve (12) days in a semester. (Page 10 of the HSSD Student and Discipline Policies * 2012-2013)
GRADUATION GUIDES YOUR FUTURE!
Kindergarten graduation, then high school graduation, then...COLLEGE GRADUATION.
That’s Gardner’s goal for EVERY STUDENT. We want our students to visualize graduation someday and we have launched an early college awareness campaign in our school district.
Our new tradition is to wear college t-shirts on the LAST TUESDAY of each month.
This will remind us all that we are STUDENTS TODAY......
GRADUATES TOMORROW!
Did You Know?
1) Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe signed a bill last year that bans students from wearing clothing that exposes "underwear, buttocks or the breast of a female." "We feel the bill can improve the learning environment in schools," said Donna Morey, president of the Arkansas Education Association.
Lawmakers also said that students should learn to dress in a way that is acceptable in the workplace as they prepare to enter it.
2) Arkansas and Louisiana passed laws this year forbidding anyone from smoking in cars carrying young children. Courts are ordering smoke-free environments in custody and visitation disputes. "We are
very rapidly moving to protect children from secondhand smoke," says John Banzhaf, executive director of Action on Smoking and Health. "Even from their own parents and grandparents."
Former surgeon general Richard Carmona said in June that children exposed to secondhand smoke suffer an increased risk of respiratory ailments and sudden infant death syndrome
PARENTS, GET INVOLVED!
1. Have conversations with your child about school every day. Ask questions that can be answered with more than a "yes" or "no" and really listen to your child’s answers.
2. Check your child’s work at home. Make sure your child has done a complete job with assignments.
3. Keep track of grades. Open your eschool account.
4. Learn about standardize tests. Find out what your child is expected to take and when they are given.
5. Have your child at school each day and make sure he/she is on time. Don’t check your child out early. Keep him/her at school the entire day.
PARENT POWER . . . .
There are many ways you can support your child’s learning and school.
Here are a few ideas:
Spend a few minutes every evening looking over handouts your youngster brings home.
Fill out forms and return the next day.
Tell your child’s teacher if you can help them out at school or home.
Make sure teachers know you appreciate their efforts.
Contact your youngster’s teacher immediately if you see a problem.
Working together will help your child succeed.
Attend conferences, parent meetings, and school events regularly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Early Bird Reminder:
Students who arrive at school BEFORE 7:30 A.M. must be signed in by a parent.

DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR P. E.
Mr. Buth suggests that students wear tennis shoes for days they have Physical Education class.
We’ve had students in sandals and flip flops that are not made for running and exercise.
Gardner cannot replace shoes that break.
We can not call parents to bring more shoes for their child / children.
They will have to sit out.
Thanks for your assistance!
